Designing Compact Efficient Spaces

Summit View is a 2,000 square foot private residential project. Located at the base of the Snow King Mountain Resort, this quiet site in East Jackson had an existing home built in the 1940s that was to continue serving as the main house.

The owner, a Jackson native, came to A43 Architecture looking to build a detached guest house and garage. Due to the restrictive dimensions of the site, a stacked design was implemented, with a garage base serving as a pedestal for the two bedroom apartment above. An open floor plan provides ample room for entertaining while embracing the view of the slopes to the South.

The team at A43 Architecture believes in the efficient use of site spaces no matter how compact. The Article below from ArchDaily gives some other great examples of house plans under 100 square meters (1076 square feet).

House Plans Under 100 Square Meters: 30 Useful Examples

Written by José Tomás Franco

The challenge of designing a house with a tight budget and space constraints, together with the essential duty of responding correctly to the requirements of the user, is sometimes one of the most challenging and motivating tasks an architect can face. How can you take advantage of space most effectively? How can you avoid wasted material? How do you anticipate the possible future expansion of the house? And how do you develop a simple design that also delivers value to its inhabitants?

To help you in this process, we scoured our project archives to select 30 houses that provide interesting architectural solutions despite measuring less than 100 square meters. See the projects HERE.
