Unveiling the Stio Mountain Studio

A fusion of design prowess and mountain town spirit, the Stio Mountain Studio has emerged as a beacon of outdoor style in Bozeman, Montana. A collaboration between Stio, the renowned outdoor apparel company, and the A43 Team, this retail space is not just a store—it's a destination capturing the essence of the great outdoors.

Crafting Mountain Town Elegance

Situated on Bozeman’s historic Main Street, the Stio Mountain Studio stands as a testament to meticulous design and a commitment to the local community. Boasting 2,488 square feet of carefully curated retail space, this project is a significant milestone for Stio.

Stio, known for its dedication to producing both beautiful and functional outdoor gear, faced a unique challenge with the Mountain Studio. The goal was clear: to let the gear shine while creating an inviting atmosphere that resonates with the mountain town soul synonymous with the brand. In collaboration with A43, an architectural language and materials palette were meticulously developed to complement Stio's outdoor lifestyle ethos.

Design Elements: Where Style Meets Nature

Stio's keen eye for color and nature-inspired aesthetics guided the design choices. To create a neutral backdrop for the vibrant gear, warm concrete floors and white walls were employed. Pops of maple plywood were strategically added to acknowledge Stio's deep connection to nature, infusing the space with warmth.

The long and narrow space was one of this project’s initial challenges. Custom maple-clad elements, including a cash wrap and trellis, were introduced to break the space into three zones. This not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also created an intimate and welcoming atmosphere.

Towards the rear of the store, fully custom maple-clad changing rooms became a focal point, showcasing an intricate CNC machined tree pattern—a nod to the natural world that defines Stio's identity.

A Nod to Local Secrets

Beyond aesthetics, the Stio Mountain Studio was designed with a strong emphasis on community integration. A subtle homage to an old Bozeman secret adds a layer of local significance. The industrial blue pendant light near the chairlift holds meaning for locals familiar with the historic Baxter Hotel and the Bridger Bowl Ski Resort, intertwining the studio with Bozeman's rich history.

Celebrating the Outdoors

The Stio Mountain Studio is not just a retail space; it's a celebration of outdoor living, a seamless blend of design and function, and a connection to the community. As you step into this carefully curated space on Bozeman's Main Street, you're not just entering a store—you're immersing yourself in the spirit of adventure and embracing the great outdoors.
